Mongol Rally 2008 Challenge

Robert Mercer

Well what a tumultuous epiode and that was just signing up. It didn't take long for something to go wrong.....Having not won a place in the intial two draws and being very dissapointed if not surprised I then partook in some rather prolonged birthday celebrations. Upon finally arriving home (having not been back for five days) feeling a tad worse for ware I plumped myself in front of the computer, attempting to drink a cup of camomile tea from my violently shaking hands, and went about reconnecting with reality in the form of checking my emails.

While siftng through the vast amount of junk (oldest first) and wondering why I even bother I happened across an email from 'the adventurists', something about more than one profile, third draw etc. anyway I carried on junk junk junk junk ju.......hang on 'the adventurists' 'you have won a place on the adventure, what?!? the thought of is this real? flashed through my mind whilst I was frantically fumbling with the mouse to open it, then click, you beauty it's bloody real!!! ha ha! yelps of joy bring my housemate thundering down the stairs 'whats going on?' que incoherent babbling from myself 'mongolia ha ha! car dddrive ha ha! can't believe it what a birthday present'. After I'd relaxed slightly I thought it might be an idea to read the rest of the email 'Your place on the mighty Mongol rally 2008 is available for your collection on the website from now until:

20:00 GMT on Monday 12th November'

It was Tuesday the 13th!

The 13th! Typical!?! Anyhow, feeling rather dejected but having somewhat gathered my senses I decided that it must be worth contacting the mongol rally guys with my tale of woe to see if anything could be done about it, so an email was composed and sent immediately. I must say I didn't hold out much hope but I certainly hadn't given up, hence about a week of checking my emails several times a day and almost losing hope when low and behold, on my return from work one day, there it is 're The Mongol Rally'. Still not knowing what news it might contain I grabbed a beer from the fridge and opened it, then I opened the email, and the ever accomodating Mongol Rally team explained therein that they were prepared for such occurances and had reasigned the place to my email address for collection within the next few days. Happiness and relief flowed freely as did the realisation that we didn't even have a car yet, as did much beer that night! Thank you guys for the second chance!!!
