About the Adventure Start: Kathmandu, Nepal; Foothills of the Himalayas at over 1200 Meters above sea level

In Between: Around 3366 unsupported kilometres of mountains, deserts, dirt tracks, jungles, bad roads, life, limbs, monsoon and cyclones along a route that is to be made up as we go.

Finish: Pondicherry, South India
Transport: 3 wheels, 7 HP and a 2 stroke engine. Yes, a rickshaw.

The Rickshaw Run weaves its way through the Indian subcontinent and will see us risk life and limb, literally, to get our three wheelers across the worst roads and tracks imaginable and through jungles and monsoon rains to complete the journey south.

When we say 'unsupported' we mean exactly that; no help at all from the organisers. We'll be left to our own devices in planning the route, food, accommodation, vehicle repairs and hospital treatment. We have been warned to stay off the highways because of the risk of 'death by truck'. Don’t be too alarmed by this – we’ll be part of a 5 rickshaw convoy consisting of 5 teams and a total of 11 people.

We're undertaking this ridiculous challenge to raise money for two worthwhile causes. All costs for the trip will be covered by us so rest assured that all of your donations will go directly to the charities.

The charities in question are:
Mercy Corps has been helping some of Asia’s poorest families living around the foothills of the Himalayas to increase water and sanitation awareness, link isolated youth to vocational training institutions and to educate the local population about the threat and management of HIV.

Frank Water Projects has already helped fund the installation of a clean water project in the village of Kothapeta, Andhra Pradesh. Every project costs £7,000 and provides clean drinking water for up to 6000 people. Frank Spring Water is sold in the UK and helps to fund this – each litre of water sold here provides 200 litres of safe drinking water for villagers of the projects.

The Rickshaw run will start on the 1st June and we aim to finish by the 16th June '08 depending on the route, weather and disposition of the gods. You can track our progress at our rickshaw run webpage: http://rickshawrun08s.theadventurists.com/blueelephantracing

Our Challenge //

Rickshaw Run Summer 2008

The Rickshaw Run Summer 2008 is pretty simple. With no preparation and less luggage one flies to the subcontinent and does one's damndest to force 150cc of Indian engineering over thousands of miles of questionable terrain in around two weeks.

Upon arrival in Nepal we pause briefly for a game of cricket followed by tea and cakes before revving our engines and setting off. We stop on...
