Team Edelweiss – österreichisches Duo bei der „Mongol Rally 2008“
Die „Mongol Rally 2008“ – eine Odyssey von London in die Mongolei – in einem alten Auto, welches maximal 1000ccm Hubraum besitzen darf – ganz ohne Fahrerlager und Backupteam – auf eigene Faust – mit nur einem Ziel: Soviel Geld wie möglich für karitative Zwecke zu sammeln – und natürlich ein unvergessliches Abenteuer zu erleben.
Das Team „Edelweiss“ wird dieses Abenteuer mit einem Fiat Panda 4x4 Baujahr 1986 wagen.

Das Spektakel „Mongol Rally 2008“ findet heuer in seiner 5. Auflage statt, rund 300 Teams werden am 19. Juli 2008 Richtung Osten aufbrechen. Es ist wahrlich keine High Tech Rallye. Die Autos sind teilweise so alt wie die jüngsten Teilnehmer, Navigation mittels GPS ist verboten, Geschwindigkeit und Route sind Nebensache. Was zählt ist der Erlebnis- und Abenteuerwert.
Die Autos bleiben nach der Rallye in der Mongolei und werden zugunsten der Hilfsorganisationen versteigert. Zudem verpflichtet sich jedes Team, mindestens 1.000 £ (etwa 1.300 €) an Spenden für in der Mongolei tätige Hilfsorganisationen zu sammeln.

Team Edelweiss on Mongol Rally 2008! Why Team Edelweiss?
Well, in our home country Austria, it has been tradition for centuries that men climb high mountains and pick an Edelweiss for their beloved as a proof of love. Of course, we want to keep this tradition alife, but the problem is that this wildflower is by now almost exterminated in the European Alps.
We were told that in Mongolia, all the meadows are full of Edelweiss. So why not taking part at the Mongol Rally 2008 and picking Edelweiss in Mongloia for our beloved?
Starting on 19th July, we will head off for a big adventure in a € 300 Fiat Panda, it will be a roadtrip with just a few goals:
Arriving in Mongolia
Raising funds for great projects
Bringing home the nicest Edelweiss we can find
Keeping Austrian traditions alife
Showing our girls that we did this whole odyssey just for them.
