About the Adventure I am planning to drive a rickshaw from Kathmandu, Nepal to Pondicherry, India with my friend, Harry Hirsch, this summer for charity. We leave Kathmandu on 1st June. I honestly don’t know when we will arrive in Pondicherry but we will!

Harry and I will pay all our own expenses. Any money we raise will go to the following charities: Mercy Corps, Frank Water and The James Wentworth-Stanley Memorial Fund. It is complusory for us to raise £1000 for the first two, so our aim is to do that quickly, and then rasie MUCH MUCH more for James, which is a cause that means a lot more to me.

Mercy Corps is a non-profit organization engaged in humanitarian aid and development activities. Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided more than £600 million in assistance to people in 94 nations. It employs 3,200 staff world-wide in 38 countries and reaches more than 13.5 million people.

I spent 3 months in Sri Lanka doing volunteer work post-tsunami. It was clear to me that without the help of organisations such as Mercy Corps, people in far-flung parts of the globe would be left to die following natural disasters. I worked alongside many Mercy Corps workers, and their passion and enthusiasm really inspired me.

Frank Water funds world wide clean water projects. So far they have funded the installation of 4 projects in Andhra Pradesh, India. 4 more projects in this area are currently under development, benefiting 48,000 people to date. Each project costs £6,700 and provides clean, safe drinking water for 6,000 people in the surrounding communities.

James Wentworth-Stanley was a close friend of mine who tragically took his own life in December 2006. His parents have set up a fund in his memory to raise awareness of depression and suicides among young people. The overriding aim of the charity is to tackle the shocking statistic that suicide is one of the two greatest causes of death amongst young men in the UK.

I would be very appreciative of your contribution.

Hi Edmund, you don't know me from a bar of soap (something you will be in need of after this adventure I think) but I am a friend of dad's who has very kindly asked myself and Tom (friend for Hamish) to Greece this summer. Having spent a lot of time in tuk tuks in India, I think this trip will be alarming but at the same time an amazing experience. I agree, both the charities you have choosen are concerned with things that are so important and I am really happy to help with. Have a great time.

Our Challenge //

Rickshaw Run Summer 2008

The Rickshaw Run Summer 2008 is pretty simple. With no preparation and less luggage one flies to the subcontinent and does one's damndest to force 150cc of Indian engineering over thousands of miles of questionable terrain in around two weeks.

Upon arrival in Nepal we pause briefly for a game of cricket followed by tea and cakes before revving our engines and setting off. We stop on...
