About the Adventure
Hearty congratulations!
You are now signed up to the beast that is the Mongol Rally 2008 that is if you still fancy 10,000 miles in a tiny car next
summer...YES PLEASE!
We are two final year undergraduates at the University of Cambridge but being female and biologists we are not sure how useful any of our current knowledge is going to be on our quest for Mongolia.
So we're off, not until 19th July mind but we're not exactly going to be twiddling our thumbs until then. Besides sitting our finals, we have a car to prepare, a route to plan and lots of money to raise for our chosen charities.
So what is the Mongol Rally? Basically it's going to take us about one month to drive the trusty Tadpole (our vehicle extraordinaire!) all the way from London's Hyde Park to UlanBataar, Mongolia's capital. After one rendezvous in the Czech Republic we're on our own for the rest of the 10,000 miles. This means no rescue service, no route and at times no road. So if we break down in the middle of the Kazakhstani desert it will be up to us to find a camel tow! Once we arrive in UlanBataar whatever is left of Tadpole will be auctioned off to the locals and the money raised donated to charity.
Please vote (yes or no!)- do you think we will make it?
All of your votes go directly to help Mercy Corps and SWORDE-Teppa.
Mercy Corps helps rural communities in Mongolia to sustain a decent quality of life for themselves.
SWORDE-Teppa is based in Tajikistan, one of the poorest countries in Central Asia, and works with local volunteers enabling people to help themselves.
Please see the links below for more information on both these charities.

What's the point?
The world is just a little bit too safe. Gone are the days when the edge of the map called you forth to discover what lay beyond - satellite maps and GPS have it laid out before you leave the armchair. What if you want th...
