About the Adventure
Why are we off to Mongolia? Simple: adventure, opportunity, disaster. Our generation is full of kids wanting an escape, idealizing and romanticizing the past adventures of the generations and historical figures before us who blazed trails in search of something new. In search of knowledge, truth, a better life. In a world of computers and cell phones, instant messages and constant contact - from a society where it is nearly impossible to really get lost - we seek the unknown, the wrong way and the useless map. We seek trouble, because every backpacker knows that when they are recounting their travels, trouble makes the best story.
Why the Rally? Well, to get lost and find adventure, to see a world in stark contrast from our own, we need to pass through communities that deal with struggles everyday, to them it is no adventure, it's life. Hope in these communities, as someone from such a place recently put it to me, is non-existant. Life moves day to day, and only for the sake of life. Why not help to make even just one day go a little better, a little easier, why not improve a couple lives, why not educate and empower those who can be empowered and educated. Why not make the world a better place. We can, we will, we are. Help us.
Who we are:
David Harvey - During a summer internship in New York, Dave heard about the Mongol Rally and knew he would be participating in 2008. Now at the American University of Cairo, studying Islam, Arabic culture and the Arabic language, as well as volunteering as an English teacher for both adult and pre-school Sudanese refugees, Dave anxiously awaits his chance to cross the world in a wreck of a car.
Matt Tomasi - After a summer backpacking trip through Europe Matt found it nearly impossible to return to the states. In stead, he posted up in London and found himself employed as a bicycling sandwich salesman. When Dave contacted Matt for a place to stay through couchsurfing.com, he was reluctant to host because he had himself been sleeping on the floor of his London flat since September. Word of The Mongol Rally quickly opened Matt's home, and space on the floor to his new guest. Now Matt, along with his auto-mechanic expertise, has joined the team. After all, what connects people better than adventure and charity.
That's the team, the charity and the adventure. Now check out where the money is going, and spend a little. Good deeds go a long way, and so will we in the summer of 2008...

What's the point?
The world is just a little bit too safe. Gone are the days when the edge of the map called you forth to discover what lay beyond - satellite maps and GPS have it laid out before you leave the armchair. What if you want th...
