About the Adventure
The Challenge/Rules
The Challenge
Quite simply to drive from London to Ulan Baatar in Mongolia (over 10 000 miles) taking whichever route we choose!
The rally is supposed to be an adventure not a guided tour. It's about getting out and discovering the world, so much so that the organisers resolutely refuse to define a route.
The challenge is absolutely not about making sure you reach the end but the fun you have trying. If you get there with no major balls-up you might as well have stayed at home.
The On Your Own Rule:
You are entirely responsible for yourself. If something goes wrong or you get yourself in a right old pickle, you have to get yourself out of it - there is absolutely no support or back-up once you hit the road.
The Charity Money Rule:
You need to raise a minimum of £1000 per team for the official rally charities by whatever means you see fit.
The 1 litre Rule:
You can only use a car with an engine of 1 litre or less that is generally considered to be of poor quality.

Pandamonium
Pandamonium the team consists of two brothers from New Zealand. Two brothers who have it in their head that no challenge is too small are taking part in the 2008 Mongol Rally as a way of not only raising money and the profiles for the aforementioned charities, but to push themselves (and almost certainly at some stage, the car) to the limits of adventure travel.
The only mechanical experience the Pilot and an IT Professional have is a childhood growing up on an farm, some old tools and a ringbinder containing a Secondry School distance leqarning courcse on Fiat Panda
The idea started as a 'flight of fancy' when Nick stumbled on the event and decided to register. Next thing he knew, an email appeared stating that a place had been secured on the rally and the rest is/will be history!
Putting the Panda into Pandamonium
The name Pandamonium is a cunning (as cunning as two Kiwi farm boys get) play on words. Taken from the pandemonium which will undoubtedly ensue when 2 brothers, both over 6" tall, are cooped up in a very small car for 10 000 miles over up to 5 weeks and the mighty 1988 Fiat Panda 4x4 secured for the event.
The 998cc white weapon, which is quite possible the smallest car either team member has owned (let alone driven) was purchased on a ridiculously rainy day in the depths of Wales. The Fiat fan who sold the car even threw in a set of off road tyres, bull bars and a spare set of rare shocks.

What's the point?
The world is just a little bit too safe. Gone are the days when the edge of the map called you forth to discover what lay beyond - satellite maps and GPS have it laid out before you leave the armchair. What if you want th...

Well, this should be a good use of £500 to get rid f you, cheaper than a hitman anyway. I have heard there is a good route via Iraq and Afghanistan....

Figured we can't go asking for sponsors unless we were leading the way. So let's start the ball rolling....
