About the Adventure Four crazy people doing an even crazier adventure driving from london to mongolia in a 993cc daihatsu hijet (fridge on wheels!) and stooping at an orphanage on the way to see where all the fundrasing money we've raised will be going.

How are you going to spend your summer?

In July I am taking part in the Mongol Rally in order to raise money for some incredible worthwhile charities that help to improve the lives of hundreds of families and children.

What is the Mongol Rally?
Starting on July 19th 2008 hundreds of teams of wacky racers will be setting off from London in a rally which finishes in the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar . Travelling a third of the way round the earth in cars with engine power of 1 litre or less, crossing the Gobi desert, mountain ranges, rocky roads, rivers, wilderness, 13 countries, 5 seas and some of the most dangerous bridges in the world . The journey is between 8 to 10 thousand miles, depending on the route taken and should take three to four weeks with a lot of luck and the wind behind us.

Each team must raise a minimum of £1000 for charity and last year’s Rally raised over £200,000.

What are the charities?

1. Hope & Homes for Children
Half of the money raised by my team will go to Hope & Homes for Children. Their mission is to give hope to the poorest children in the world – those who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable – by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home, so that they can fulfil their potential.

There are more that one million children in state institutions in Central and Eastern Europe , growing up in poverty, fear and misery. Hope & Homes works with local authorities to move children from large institutions to caring family homes. They help to change outdated attitudes to childcare policy and put in place alternative care systems.

2. Mercy Corps Mongolia
The other half of the money my team raises will go to Mercy Corps Mongolia, a charity that supports rural communities in Mongolia . They help individuals, families and communities to become more self-sufficient and to diversify whilst still preserving traditions.

One of the projects supported by the Mongol Rally includes the Blue Skies Ger Village in Ulaanbaatar . a safe and loving sanctuary for homeless and abandoned children. They have 24hour security, a cook, a teacher and a Ger mother for each Ger. (A Ger is a tradition Mongolian dwelling in a tent structure)

Could your Company help put a smile on children’s faces around the world by sponsoring my team for this year’s Mongol Rally? Every penny raised by us goes directly to the charities.

What's the point?

The world is just a little bit too safe. Gone are the days when the edge of the map called you forth to discover what lay beyond - satellite maps and GPS have it laid out before you leave the armchair. What if you want th...
