About the Adventure
On 1st June the Summer 2008 Rickshaw Run will begin and 70 teams will battle it out in a mammoth three-wheeled race over 2000 miles from Kathmandu in Nepal to Pondicherry near the southern tip of India. Team Shes a Goa is Avril Marmion and Lisa Gledhill, and armed with little more than a 145cc, 7hp autorickshaw, and a spare change of pants, we'll be taking on the might of the subcontinent and anything it throws at us. With a bit of luck we'll make it alive to Pondicherry two weeks later.
Although a lot of fun will be had along the way, the trip has a clear and serious focus - to raise money to help the plight of the people living in poverty-stricken areas of India and Nepal. For all we may joke about the discomfort we will endure en route, there remains the fact that for the majority of the 1 billion people living in India, this is daily life, and we want to do our bit to alleviate this suffering.
We're supporting two charities Mercy Corps and Frank Water. To keep things simple, all of the money you donate will be initially donated to Mercy Corps who have kindly agreed to transfer 50% of the funds raised to Frank Water. Your money will be channelled into local causes that aim to not merely inject cash or resources, but to equip communities with the skills, ability and confidence to affect their own long-lasting rise from poverty.
We have pledged to raise £1000 to support the excellent work of Mercy Corps and Frank Water, a figure we hope can be far surpassed. Please do try to help us achieve this goal by making a donation today.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Mercy Corps will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please dig deep and sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.

Selvakumar Chelliah 2008-06-19 £10 Congratulations on completing your long & hard 3 wheel journey....Jordy was always posting updates & whereabouts to find more information from desi guys in here... |
Susan Konstantas 2008-06-18 £23.95 I am sure the journey is over by now but I am certain it was a fantastic experience and a lifelong memory. |
The Rickshaw Run Summer 2008 is pretty simple. With no preparation and less luggage one flies to the subcontinent and does one's damndest to force 150cc of Indian engineering over thousands of miles of questionable terrain in around two weeks.
Upon arrival in Nepal we pause briefly for a game of cricket followed by tea and cakes before revving our engines and setting off. We stop on...
You are among the first fans & fundraisers to be let loose upon the WillWeMakeIt™ fundraising system - Congratulations! - but do let us know how we're doing! If there is a tweak or improvement you'd like us to make, pop the full details of it in here and our technical guru James will be onto it in a flash gordon!
