About the Adventure Team Members: Robert Till & Henry Douglas.

Country of origin: Scotland

This July Henry and I are setting off from Auchterarder on a gruelling drive that will take us one third of the way across the world to the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar. We are taking part in the Mongol Rally, one of the rules of the event is that our vehicle must have an engine size of no bigger than 1 litre.

There is no recognised route and we are completely unsupported with no back-up nor the luxury of AA assistance on hand! Therefore, we will have to carry out all repairs ourselves, take a vast selection of spare parts, fuel, First Aid, food and water, and generally be reliant upon our own ingenuity and charm to extricate ourselves from tricky situations that have become a recognised part of the event.

The route we have chosen stretches over 10,000 miles, through 18 different countries, including such remote places as Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, traversing 4 mountain ranges and 3 deserts.

We are trying to get corporate sponsorship from as many instantly recognisable Scottish brands, famous in the UK, Europe and the rest of the World, in order to turn our car into a travelling bill board, showcasing the finest products Scotland has to offer. We also hope to personally promote the friendly Scottish spirit everywhere we go.

With your help we aim to raise over £5000 for the charities, all of which are based either in Mongolia or in the poorest countries that we pass through en-route. The principle charity is Mercy Corps Mongolia, which helps rural communities to become more self-sufficient, diversified in their production of crops or local products, and better linked to local, regional and national markets. There are also four other important charities: Hope and Homes for Children, The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation, Sworde Teppa and CAMDA, who provide everything from housing orphaned street children to supplying veterinary aid to nomadic herds men who are dependant on their animals for a livelihood.

As well as giving the charities as much money as we can, when (or should that be if?!) we arrive in Mongolia, our car and all our equipment will be given to them too and we must then find a way back home either by train or plane.

As we are currently buying all the equipment, (not to mention visas and vaccinations, which alone amount to well over £1000 for the two of us) we do need substantial sponsorship immediately. We would therefore be most grateful if you could donate in any way you can, e.g. with money, equipment, etc.

We would be most grateful for any support you can give us. Many thanks

Robert and Henry
