About the Adventure
THE AFRICAN ADVENTURE .....
This year is going to be the first year for the African Rally with a massive audience and plenty of media attention. The African Rally defines itself as The greatest Adventure in the World. Starting from London, the rally finishes in Cameroon about 4 weeks later. It's around 10,000 miles (16,000 km) of sand, bandits and breakdowns. We are Team Le Dahlia, a four men team from Saint Martin de Belleville (FR), taking part in the rally to Cameroon. The African Rally is a new route from the organisers of the Mongol Rally. A rally that Team Le Dahlia succesfully (well.....) completed. The Mongolian Rally started as an adventure in 2001 for two student teachers in Prague. It's not really a race, it's an adventure, with charity fundraising thrown in. Each team on the African Rally has to raise a minimum of a £1,000 for charity . Six teams left London in 2004. This year, it's exploded, with nearly 200 cars lining up in Hyde Park for the launch in July. The first 150 places for the 2007 Rally to Mongolia were subscribed in a record time of 30 seconds and we are one of those teams. The Mongol Rally is based on sponsorship, media attention and the charities it raises money for.
We are TEAM LE DAHLIA and our names are Sebastiaan Kruijthoff born in Rhoon(NL), Simon P. May, born in Cornwall (UK)A.K.A Crazy Sy, Helen Webb, born in Chesterfield(UK) and Maaike Buijsman, born somewhere in the Netherlands.
During the winter we all work in Bar/Restaurant Le Dahlia in Saint Martin de Belleville. We have been working there for the last four year. This year we will do something different and drive to Cameroon. Crazy Sy as chef de cuisine/mechanic (as he has no drivers licence), Maaike as our nurse, Seb as the designated driver and Helen as The Babysitter.
Our homebase: Somewhere in Europe.
Our mission: Uk, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, France (again), Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon.
