About the Adventure "To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily; not to dare is to lose oneself" Kirkegaard.

But how to FIND ourselves? A good question. We are of the opinion that taking a car to Mongolia on a shoestring budget for charity would be a good start.

Our planned route is the Silk Road - not actually a road at all, more of an ancient conglomeration of trading routes which start in Europe and amble through the Middle East to China. WHICH IS RIGHT NEXT TO MONGOLIA...

The idea is that we will be setting off from Hyde Park, London (on Saturday 19th July), to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in as rubbish a car as is available. We aim to do this in the most civilised and gentlemanly way possible - in the spirit of other, better adventurers. This means that we will AT ALL TIMES be dressed in a manner that could only be described as "dapper" (possibly "dishy"); we will maintain an imperious disregard for the local constabulary, border officials and highway patrolmen; and of course we will drink only gin and tonics and refer to each other by our surnames, connected to a strictly imposed rank and heirarchy; and obviously we'll wear pith helmets and World War One Flying goggles every STEP of the way.

Our projected route is (insanity not yet diagnosed):
London, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia then, finally and not a little hopefully - Mongolia.

The charities and projects we will be supporting are mainly concerned with Mongolia and the welfare of its peoples. The main two charities we are donating to are CAMDA (Cambridge Mongolian Disaster Appeal) and Mercy Corps Mongolia. The projects organised by these charities that we are supporting are CAMDA's "Wellsprings of Hope for Mongolia’s Nomadic Herders" - which provides free wells for the Mongolian nomads to use, in order to help them maintain their culture and lifestyle; and the other is the Mercy Corps-organised "Training, Advocacy, and Networking Project" - which helps rural Mongolian community leaders to start to rebuild vital infrastructure after the demise of Communism in the country.

I think anyone reading this will agree these are very worthy charities to be fundraising for - any help would be greatly appreciated. In return, we can offer a firm handshake (with genuine eye contact) and a periodical newsletter informing you of the perilous happenings whilst we're actually on the rally, sent via email.

So - to the bare bones of it: to donate, simply press the pink button at the top left of the page that says "donate" - all you need is a PayPal account, which is the payment system for eBay as well - the chances are that if you're on eBay, you already have an account with PayPal. Then (if you feel like it) you could vote as to whether or not you think we'll make it. What do you reckon? Fair?

The British Government will match 28.2% of whatever you donate - providing us with the unique opportunity to both give Gordon Brown a rap across the knuckles AND help people. Can't really say fairer than that.

A final, but extremely important note: ALL MONEY DONATED TO THIS SITE WILL GO TO THE CHARITIES. Not us. We don't really deserve it - give it to someone who does.

i think once you have crossed into mongolia, horns should be added to the pith helmets, and ostentatious ginger moustaches...

It's like I've always said, "what's the point having any money if you cant use it to try to get your friends to chase their sisters around naked covered in jam on youtube." Good luck with the rally
