About the Adventure The rumours are true, George and John, herewith referred to as Tarts on Tour, are driving up to 10,000 miles in a clapped out Transit ambulance from London to Mongolia. in our latest stage of dementia we can’t quite remember when and why we decided to do the rally but Hey Ho, in for a penny in for a pound or two!

The aims are quite simple, my child. Buy a piece of motoring history which is ostensibly a piece of crap with an engine no greater than 1000cc and drive it to Mongolia. The petrol heads amongst you will have noticed instantly that our ambulance has a somewhat bigger engine than 1000cc, in fact it’s a seventeen year old ex-emergency ambulance 2900cc V6 to be correct, complete with blues and two’s. However we have received a papal dispensation from the organisers who consider it to be of suitable “comic value?” and could be of some use to the Mongolian economy when and if we get it there.

Our route: London (England) >France->Belgium>Germany>Czech Republic (Drinkies in Prague)> Poland> Ukraine> Russia> Kazakhstan> Russia (Again)> Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar)> Fly Home after an emotional farewell to our ambulance. All in 29 days, we hope.

Our support Team: Nonexistent, apart from lots of tank tape, tubes of sticky-stuff (trade mark), a bag of spanners and a combined 100 years of all things fast and oily!

Our relationship: It’s lasted over 40 years, basically because we meet once every blue moon, who knows what will happen on those cold Gobi desert nights whilst sharing a double sleeping bag. If any of our early rallying episodes are anything to go by we may even be returning on separate flights; I thought you said “flat over crest” not, “sat on crisps!”

Our Aim: to be the oldest competing team to finish (having a combined age of 137 years including the ambulance ) plus having the most fun raising money , before being committed to the nursing home complete with Cosworth Escort and Shelby Mustang- and lots of nurses.

Why are we telling you all this? Quite simple really, we want your money, and in return we will blog you every day reporting our progress or lack of it.

So pay up now or we will be around in the ambulance to take you away.

Regards and sincere thank George Page and John Harding (Tarts On Tour)

PS. You will be able to follow our progress when the rally starts by logging onto the Mongol Rally 2008 web site, select The Teams, and select Tarts on Tour. We will update our blog frequently to keep you up to date on our progress using a combination of dead letter drops, smoke signals, homing pigeons (coo), Kate Adie, and cyber cafes in the Gobi desert. Now what were we talking about?
