About the Adventure On the 19th July 2008 Cedric Ladde and Paul Jackson will embark upon an epic drive from Hyde Park (London), UK to Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia in order to raise money for two very worthy causes, Mery Corps - Mongolia and Hope and Homes for Children.

The trip will take us through Scandinavia, into the Arctic Circle, across Russia and Siberia, through Kazakhstan before arriving in Mongolia about 5 weeks and 9,000 miles later. That sounds like good fun you may say, but the twist in the tail is that the journey must be made using a car of less than 1 litre engine capacity and in our case, a 23 year old, Suzuki SJ410 with 131,000 miles on the clock!

So, will we make it? Please sponsor us as well as vote below. We are aiming to raise at least £1000 for the Mery Corps Mongolia and Homes and Hope for Children.

Mercy Corps Mongolia - supports rural communities to meet their economic and social needs, helping individuals, families and communities to become more self-sufficient, diversified in their production, and better linked to local, regional and national markets. For more information please see www.mercycorps.org.uk.

Homes and Hope For Children - Hope and Homes for Children work in eastern european countries focusing on closing down the state institutions and removing children from the terrible conditions in these centres. The children are reunited with siblings, and where possible placed with their biological families. Other children are relocated to small family homes, which provide them with a loving, stimulating environment enabling them to reach their full potential. For more information please see www.hopeandhomes.org.

You're going to have an awesome time - VERY jealous... Best of luck with it all, and remember to take some kind of yoking mechanism with you (so you can hook the chassis up to a cheap yak when you inevitably break down in the middle of the desert... :-).

I always wanted an SJ410 as a teenager... albeit not to drive to the other side of the earth in - that would be ridiculous.

Mongol Rally 2008

What's the point?

The world is just a little bit too safe. Gone are the days when the edge of the map called you forth to discover what lay beyond - satellite maps and GPS have it laid out before you leave the armchair. What if you want th...
